Maghull Town Council Yearly Park Review Update

Dear Residents,

Exciting Park Improvements Across Maghull!

Maghull Town Council (MTC) is thrilled to share the incredible progress made across our parks over the past year! Our commitment to revitalising and enhancing green spaces continues, and we are pleased to highlight some of the key achievements.

Park Refurbishments & Play Area Upgrades; We’ve completed major refurbishment works at Glenn Park, Old Hall Park, and Dodds Park, introducing new activity trails and refurbishing existing play equipment, creating even more enjoyable spaces for families. At Balls Wood, we’ve repaired the swing basket, hurricane spinner, and a two-seat junior swing, ensuring a fun and safe play experience for younger visitors.

Mersey Avenue and South Meade parks have received new safety surfacing and springer units, with Mersey also benefiting from a brand-new multi-play unit. Additionally, we’ve installed 10 new benches throughout our parks, with more on the way. Looking ahead, bow top fencing will be installed at Dodds Park and South Meade to enhance safety and comply with PSPO dog control measures.

Environmental Enhancements & Sustainability Initiatives; Our Park Management Team has been hard at work, ensuring our parks remain well-maintained, safe, and environmentally friendly. Essential landscape improvements have been carried out, including extensive pruning and selective tree felling to enhance visibility and public safety.

We’re also proud to announce that significant tree-planting has taken place, with over 260 new trees planted across KGV, Balls Wood, Glenn Park, and Old Hall Park, with species ranging from wild cherry, rowan, birch, oak, and Sequoia. More trees are set to be planted at Glenn Park in the near future. This project supports biodiversity, enriches natural habitats for local wildlife, and helps mitigate the impact of necessary tree removals.

Community-Led Transformations with Maghull in Bloom; (MIB) Maghull in Bloom volunteers have been instrumental in transforming our local environment. During the summer months, their dedication is evident in the stunning flower displays outside the Meadows Leisure Centre, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while creating a vibrant and welcoming space for all.

In an inspiring collaboration, MIB and MTC teamed up back in October to restore the beloved rose garden within the KGV Playing Fields. The team worked hard to bring this cherished space back to life, planting carefully selected trees and plants such as Sequoia and Pittosporum, which will provide colour year-round with minimal maintenance. By summer, this project will blossom into a beautiful and lasting feature for the community to enjoy.   Further works are planned over the coming months.

If you’re inspired by MIB’s work and want to get involved, they would love to hear from you! Whether you’re a gardening enthusiast or simply want to lend a helping hand, your support can make a real difference.
